Email subject line: How I came back from Olympic Rejection
Hi Victoria
My name is Jordan Thomas, and I am a World Karate Champion. I’m getting in touch with regards to me being so close to the Olympics and the affects it has had by not making it. I wanted to put this story idea on your radar:
Not making the Olympics has resulted the loss of funding and has left me to self fund my athlete career once again. Sometimes people think athletes live the dream life but what happens when your team that you have trusted for so many years gets taken away from you? You feel lonely, unwanted, frustrated, unmotivated and guilty for letting people down. This feeling floats around and follows you everyday. I’ve had to overcome these thoughts and had to revert back to the psych work that I have done in the past and practice it everyday. I understand why some athletes could have suicidal thoughts.
Mental Health is a issue that should always be on topic and I’m sure a lot of people could relate or deepen there understanding.
Being an athlete we come up against setbacks regularly that we must overcome and move forward onto the next. My Next is this upcoming World Karate Champion in November held in Dubai.
This could be hooked onto World Mental health day on 8th October, or National Fitness Day tomorrow
I’d love to know if this would be of interest to feature and can send over more info or images if needed.
Many thanks,
Jordan Thomas
